MUARC To Demonstrate Amateur Radio In Rathfriland

The Mid Ulster Amateur Radio Club will be promoting the hobby to the residents of and visitors to the town of Rathfriland, Co Down, Northern Ireland.

With a town centre location in the hill-top market town, the MUARC will be operating from our purpose built display trailer on Friday 28th and Saturday 29th June.

With access to the normal hf bands, as well as 2m vhf, we hope for favourable band conditions to allow for an entertaining exhibition of amateur radio.

Spanish Ham Radio Team In Nicaragua

DX-World.net is reporting that a Spanish team from the Aitana DX Group (ADXG) will be active from the YN2N Shack in Nicaragua between October 1-16th.

Operators mentioned are Francisco EA7FTR, Gen EA5HPX, Fernando EA5FX, Javi EA5KM, Jose EA1ACP and Carlos EA1DVY.

Activity will be on all bands using CW, SSB and RTTY.

The callsign will be announced soon.

Pilot station is Ismael EA1AZ.

Ham Radio Operators in North Korea

A group of amateur radio operators are hoping to get permission from the North Korean government for a month-long trip to the country during which they’ll set up a ham radio operation.

If they manage to pull off the plan, they’ll have succeeded where few have before.

North Korea has no amateur radio operators and government-sanctioned transmissions by foreigners in the country are extremely rare. This makes North Korea the rarest country for contacts in the amateur radio world.

The project is still in the planning phase but is being led by operators with experience of both North Korea and operating in usually closed countries. One of the members, David Flack (AH6HY), has been to the DPRK several times and other members helped organize similar trips to Kurdistan, South Sudan and Yemen.
